Comparison of English and Macedonian Adjectives
COMPARISON OF ENGLISH AND MACEDONIAN ADJECTIVES An adjective modifies a noun. It describes the quality, state or action that a noun refers to. Macedonian Adjectives are words that describe or modify another person or thing in the sentence. While in English an adjective doesnââ¬â¢t change when the noun changes, in Macedonian an adjective should agree in gender and number with the noun. For example: a) Masculine to feminine example: ? (this is my little son) becomes: ? (this is my little daughter) As you can see from the example above, the adjective comes before the noun and also takes the feminine form. ) Singular to plural example: ? (this is my white cat) becomes: . (these are my white cats). As you can see from the example above, the adjective comes before the noun and also takes the plural form. The most common suffixes added on the adverbs are: -For masculine gender: -/ (none) ex: (small boat) -For feminine gender: ââ¬â a ex: (small house) -For neuter gender: ââ¬â o ex: (small child) -For plural: ââ¬â ? ex: (small toys) Here are some examples: English AdjectivesMacedonian Adjectives green tree- a tall building- a very old man ââ¬â the old red house- a very nice friend ââ¬â In Macedonian, Adjectives agree with nouns in gender, definiteness, and number, and they usually stay before the noun in a sentence. The comparative and the superlative form are formed analytically adding - (po-) for comparative, and - (naj-) for superlative, to the basic adjective form. If there are more than one adjectives before the noun, all of them agree in gender and number with the noun, but only the first adjective 1 et the definite articles morphemes, and the other adjectives keep their basic form. Adjectives in Macedonian usually have these endings: masculine adjectives ââ¬â ending on consonant, on - (-ski), -/- (-ov/-ev) etc. ; , , â⬠¦ feminine adjectives are formed by adding -a to the masuciline form (consona nt+a, or -ska, -eva, -ova etc. ); , , â⬠¦ neuter adjectives are formed by adding -o to the masuciline form (consonant+o, or -sko, -evo, -ovo etc. ; , , â⬠¦ plural form is same for all three genders and is formed by adding -? (-i) to the masculine form (consonant+i, -ski, ovi, evi etc. ) ââ¬â , , â⬠¦ ââ¬â You can notice that the plural form of the adjectives ending on -ski is same as the masuline singular form. Adjectives agree with nouns in gender, number and definiteness with their noun and usually appear before it. Adjectives have three degrees of comparison ( , stepenuvanje na pridavki) ââ¬â positive, comparative and superlative. The positive form is identical to all the aforementioned forms. The other two are formed regularly, by prepending the particle and the word directly before the positive to form the comparative and superlative, respectively, regardless of its comprising one or two words. Positive Comparative Superlative (heavy) (heavier) (heavi est) (long) (longer) (longest) Macedonian only has one adjective that has an irregular comparative ââ¬â .PositiveComparativeSuperlative (a lot) (more) (the most) Adjective types: ââ¬â Possessive Adjectives ââ¬â his, her, its, my, our, their, and your (Whose) -Demonstrative Adjectives ââ¬â that, these, this, those, and what (Which? ) -Interrogative Adjectives ââ¬â used to ask questions ââ¬â examples: what, which and whose. 2 -Indefinite Adjectives ââ¬â some common indefinite adjectives are all, any, each, every, few, many, and some. English adjectives are used in only one form: they do not distinguish gender, number or case.English adjectives are used in 2 positions: Attributively (before nouns) ex. They bought a beautiful house. Predicatively (after nouns) ex. Their house is beautiful. AS + ADJECTIVE + AS ââ¬â to compare people, places, events or things, when there is no difference, use as + adjective + as ex:Moscow is as cold as St. Petersburg i n the winter. NOT AS + ADJECTIVE + AS Difference can also be shown by using not so/as â⬠¦ s ex:Mont Blanc is not as high as Mount Everest. COMPARATIVE + THAN To compare the difference between two people, things or events. ex: Mt. Everest is higher than Mt. Blanc. THE + SUPERLATIVE It shows which thing has that quality above or below the level of the others. There must be three or more to use the superlative. x:Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. Form the comparative and superlative forms of a one-syllable adjective by adding ââ¬âer for the comparative form and ââ¬âest for the superlative. ex:Max is older than John. If the one-syllable adjective ends with a single consonant with a vowel before it, double the consonant. ex:big bigger biggest With some common two-syllable adjectives we can either add ââ¬Ë-erââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ë-estââ¬â¢, or use ââ¬Ëmoreââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëmostââ¬â¢. x:common cruel gentle handsome likely, narrow pleasant polite simple stupidâ⬠¦.. Note that ââ¬Ëcleverââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëquietââ¬â¢ only add ââ¬Ë-erââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ë-estââ¬â¢. It was quieter outside. We use ââ¬Ëmoreââ¬â¢ for the comparative and ââ¬Ëmost for the superlative of most two syllabic and all longer adjectives. ex:Be more careful next timeA few common adjectives and adverbs have irregular comparative and superlative forms. goodbetterbest bad-worse-worst near-nearer-nearest -16654 old-older-oldest(elder-eldest) 3

Monopoly power is not automatically bad as long as it is regulated Essay
Monopoly power occurs when a business is a dominant seller of a good or service with a market share that exceeds 25%. There are many disadvantages for societies where monopolies exist. A higher price than those in competitive markets is one of the main disadvantages for society. As monopolies are the main seller of goods and services in the market they can use their market power in order to raise the prices well above the marginal cost and thus make supernormal profits. As their prices are set so high and people have little other choice than to pay for them this reduces the amount of consumer surplus income. Green area = supernormal profit (AR-AC) Pink area = Deadweight welfare loss (the combined loss of producer and consumer surplus) compared to a competitive market. This would be bad for the economy as people would have less disposable income than they would otherwise have had if the good/service was at a cheap price, so cannot spend as much in other aspects of the economy. Another disadvantage of monopoly is that there are fewer incentives to be efficient. If it is protected by high barriers to entry (meaning there are a few or no competitors in their market), the business may become complacent and thus operate less efficiently that it could. In this instance it is also possible for diseconomies of scale to occur. For example if the business did become complacent and chose not to bother to invest in technology to improve its efficiency it could suffer from technical diseconomies of scale as with new equipment/machinery, goods can be produced at cheaper and more effective levels. The monopoly may also choose to deliberately erect barriers of entry into the market to ensure that they do not lose market share. This is bad for small businesses in the economy as it gives them little opportunity to grow and compete with such large companies as they may purposefully decide to lower their prices so that consumers choose to go the monopoly instead of the small business. As small businesses are unable to compete with theà monopoly this would mean that there is a rise in unemployment. Increased levels of unemployment bring many negatives to the economy as the government will have to pay out more benefits meaning they have less money to spend on public and merit goods. As there would be more people out of work, they also do not have as much disposable income to spend on goods and services. As consumer spending is a key component of aggregate demand, this could reduce its levels and as a result bring down the GDP for the economy. However, monopolies arenââ¬â¢t necessarily bad; they can be advantageous in some aspects of the UK economy. Although they can achieve supernormal profits through having higher prices, this can then be used to invest in research and development to further their business, or protect it if it does badly. This will also lead to the creation of employment. More people employed will mean fewer benefits have to be paid out and the government can spend this money saved on improving the country. Another advantage of a monopoly is that they can achieve economies of scale (purchasing large quantities of materials for a cheaper price) as they are such a large business. Increased output (Q to Q2) will lead to a decrease in average costs of production(C to C1) and these savings can be passed on to consumers in the form of lower prices. UK firms may have to be of a larger size if they want to compete on an international basis. To become large enough to compete in the international market a business is likely to need to become a monopoly if they are to stand a chance with competing with many other firms in different countries. Providing that monopoly power is regulated so that it is not abused to exploit consumers and purposefully make it difficult for new firms to enter the market, they are not necessarily bad. After all, firms grow by satisfying customers and companies that are monopolies wouldnââ¬â¢t be the size they are if they didnââ¬â¢t have satisfied customers. They provide many jobs within the economy and lots of revenue that can be invested elsewhere in the economy as well as being able to increase the GDP of a country.

Breastfeeding vs. Bottle Feeding
There are few experts who oppose breastfeeding as the best choice for infants. However, lowering breastfeeding rates raises many questions about why mothers choose the best nutritional choice for their children. Breast milk is an obvious choice for infant lactation due to its health, psychological and economic benefits, but many mothers are still in infants because of lack of knowledge and support, breastfeeding difficulties and social paralysis I decided to give milk powder for use. This is a glimpse of the science behind breastfeeding and discussions about bottling and expression breast feeding. The book Science of Mother is written in more detail, including the infant's feeding research, the limits of scientific research, and how to properly see promoting breastfeeding and cultural barriers. I have created a free e-mail series for you! If you do not feel the joy and happiness of motherhood you were expecting, this e-mail series will change your perception of your birth. That's rig ht. I saw my mature strategy work many times over and over for moms like you. I know that it is also in you. Breastfeeding is encouraged and public breastfeeding is common. In fact, baby feeding is generally not recommended, and public baby feeding can cause discomfort to mothers over public breastfeeding. Many shopping centers offer parent's room where mothers can comfortably change their bodies and feed their babies. Most areas of breastfeeding in South America are regulated, and public breastfeeding is common in buses, parks, shopping malls, and so on. It is not common to see a public baby bottle than breastfeeding. Women rarely appear in high-end restaurants and street care in big cities, but nursing, encouraging and thinking about the breasts of regular mothers or lactating mothers is not considered sexual subjects.

Don't Leave Home Without an Education - Essay Example These children have the freedom to study at their own pace, which usually outpaces their public educated counterparts. Moreover, the parents have the opportunity to teach material and coursework that is not offered in the local public school system. Though some may say that children develop more social skills in a classroom setting, this has not been born out by research and in fact has indicated the opposite to be true. The ability to teach your children at their own pace, in a wider array of interesting topics, and cultivate their unique socialization, makes homeschooling a welcome alternative to public schooling. In a classroom setting with 25 other children, the pace of instruction is usually set by the slowest learners. The brighter students are often ignored as they compete for the teacher's scarce time. However, home schooling offers individual instruction designed around the child's interests and abilities. Grade school children can be offered physics, astronomy, and geometry in a setting that makes the introduction to these subjects possible. Subjects usually reserved for middle school can be taught much sooner in a home setting where the student receives the individual instruction that is necessary to excel. Along with learning at a pace that is unhampered by limited teacher attention, the parent and student can decide what subjects to learn.

This type of diabetes is most often found in adults and its risk is increased by obesity, lack of physical activity, stress, depression and poor nutritional habits. Since diabetes and severe obesity have been found to be linked, mainly through the adipose tissue, which has been found to trigger insulin resistance in sells, the appearance of obesity will in most cases lead to diabetes. NIST 800-64 rev2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
NIST 800-64 rev2 - Essay Example The problem I choose to discuss is poor communication between the employers and employees. In managing IT systems and their progress, an Information system security process is put in place to help identify risks, plan and mitigate problems that may arise at the workplace. Implementing a risk management ââ¬â based approach serves to integrate security systems throughout the agency. However, throughout the system and its working, communication plays a major role in how well everything is understood and implemented in order to ensure high productivity with lesser number of problems. Communication is an indispensable part of any organization because its success or failure depends a lot on it. One of the critical assets of any organization is proper communication between employers and employees as well as among the management and workers. Proper communication helps to instill integrity and solidarity among the workers and helps them to focus better on the goal ahead. System managers c an make use of good communication as a tool to build strong relationships not only among the workers but also the clients that deal with them. Proper communication is a fundamental asset for decision ââ¬â making, negotiation, implementation and assessment of the whole developmental process. One of the dilemmas that could arise in the workplace is miscommunication that leads to anger, fear, mistrust and lack of understanding among the parties involved. This problem is quite evident especially within a multicultural organization. The five phases such as Initiation, Development, Implementation, Operation and Disposal that contributes towards the smooth working and productivity of the organization could be hampered if there is no proper communication among its staff and workers. In implementing and executing a risk management based approach, it is both crucial and vital to help employees understand the integrated security component of the organization because each of them plays a si gnificant role in its successful achievement. Miscommunication in any one of the areas could bring about heavy losses to the agency or organization. In the Security Considerations in the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) different individuals play different roles with different responsibilities and in order to ensure the systematic progress and success of the organization, they have to interact with each other during each stage of activity. In such a scenario, effective communication involving security requirements and expectations is inevitable. Every member is accountable in the position they hold responsibility within the organization. Employing an appropriate Information security personnel at the initiation juncture would be the right thing to do, so as to avoid communication mishaps during the process of any project. The individual carrying out this job has a big responsibility since it is a high risk job involving the organizations operations as well as its assets. However, all the other officials and managers each have their own role to play and their own responsibility which is clearly defined and they are accountable for things that go wrong. In such a set up effective communication plays a very important role because it helps to keep the security system in tact and in an effective working order. Since every person is highly responsible and accountable for their actions, it is inevitable that the first thing that should be put into place is a proper

The Effect Of China As A Power House On U.S. Economy Essay Example for Free
The Effect Of China As A Power House On U.S. Economy Essay Analysts have described the rise of China as a poor, stagnant country to an economic powerhouse as the greatest economic growth of this modern time. Studies show that, from 1979 when the first economic reform was made to 2006, Chinaââ¬â¢s economy has increased by over 11 folds. Its gross domestic products grew at an annual rate (GDP) of 9. 6 percent and its real per capita GDP grew to over eight folds. Its world trade ranking rose from 27th to 3rd and its is projected to be the first in the next decade. Because of this rise, the business relationship between the U. S and China has grown over the recent decades. The U. S. -China economic relationship rose from $4. 3 billion in 1983 to $343 billion in 2006. For the United States, China has become their second largest trade partner, most imports done in the United States come from China and these imports amounts to billions yearly. China is also the fourth largest export market for the U. S. economy and the second largest for its imports. The purchasing power of the U. S. citizens is increased due to the inexpensive imports from China. In addition, many U. S manufacturing firms also have most of their manufacturing done in China. This is to take advantage of the huge Chinese market and the cheap labor force that is available to them. Chinaââ¬â¢s purchases of U. S. Treasury securities have funded federal deficits and helped keep interest rates relatively low. Though despite the perceived threat of Chinaââ¬â¢s economic growth, unites states economy has maintained a full employment rate and robust economic growth. Nevertheless, the rise of China as an economic powerhouse has raised concern among many U. S. policy makers. Their fears include the taking over of China as the worldââ¬â¢s largest trade economy in the next few years and the worldââ¬â¢s largest economy in the next two decades. Going by this view, it is believed that the rise of China begins the relative fall of U. S. another point of concern is the large business relationship between U. S. and China which is value at about $343 billion. The view projected is that China use unfair trade practices. One of those practices are the supply of low priced products, thereby not encouraging exports from the U. S. the practices put threats to U. S. jobs, wages and living standards. The situation tends to worsen when China moves towards improving the quality of products done by them like autos and computers. Some of the recent development is the efforts put forward by China state owned firms to acquire U. S companies and the accumulation of U. S. Treasury securities. Policy makers have expressed concern over chinââ¬â¢s large holdings of U. S. securities and Treasury securities. They believe that China could use it as a political tool against the United States. This I agree with because with such holdings, China can have the power to make dollar collapse if they want. They can do this by liquidating their large portion of their large portion of U. S. Treasury securities holdings if the Unites States impose sanction on the revaluation of Yuan and the threat to do so could be used as a bargaining chip. Looking at all this, one would ask a question; what will the trade with China do to Americaââ¬â¢s economy? He trade deficit with China has grown to a significantly over the recent years. This is due to the large imports f Chinaââ¬â¢s product into United States and the large exports of Americaââ¬â¢s products to China. This trade deficit with China has grown larger than any other trade deficit that America has with any other country. The fears are still growing over policies done by the Chinese to boost their exports into U. S and restricting American products into China. EFFECT ON TRADES AND JOBS The effect of the rising status of China on the U. S economy carries a mixed effect. On some sectors of employments and jobs, it carries a positive and negative effect. The imports done from China can destroy most of Americaââ¬â¢s jobs and manufacturing firms that produces same products. Analysis shows that the current inflow of imports is likely to increase the rate of job loss. The closing down of companies could reduce the economic standard of the country. The relative steadiness of full employment and output are two complementary reasons in the face of steady imports and disruptive markets. The use of monetary policy by the Federal Reserve to control the rate of spending in the country to the level generally consistent with full employment. A well run monetary policy can minimize the deviations that can occur in full employment sector and reduce the duration of such episodes. It helps keep the level of employment high in most years despite trades in general. Giving a better example and expositions to job losses and its relationship to total employment, considering that in any quarter of 2000, the peak of the last economic expansion, the total American jobs of about 137 million, the total job losses was about 9 million and most them was as a result of the foreign trade done. Another similar case was the total job loss of about 7. 4 million in 2004. Apart from the job loss due o foreign trade, the industries are the ones that are hit hard. Secondly, looking at purchasing imports. The increase in the price of imports would also increase the prices of exports. This outcome flows from the fundamental economic requirements hat imports must be paid for and exports are the only means of making those payments. The exports that are sold could be already finished goods and services. It can also be the sale of assets to foreigners such as savings in the bank, shares and stocks, bonds and real properties. This is to say that, when tallied across transactions in assets or goods, a nations trade is always in balance and in any in balance in the trading of goods must be compensated with in balance in the trading of assets. Therefore, most types of exports have positive effect on employments. There is a positive effect of exportation of goods from U. S. on employment is high. When foreigners increase their purchase of exported goods, the total output and employment increases. This counters the level of job lost that is caused by the rate of importation. Therefore, this is to say that the large Chinese market has a positive effect on the employment rate of the United States. Looking at it from another point of view, because the sale of assets is equal to the level of savings in the United States, it exerts a downward push on the domestic interest rates. This stimulates the interest sensitive activities such as spending on consumer durables, residential constructions, raising output, and employments in this sector. Therefore, this is to say that the negative effect of imports on the economy and the rate of employment are offset by the increased rate of exports from other parts of the economy. Another common concern of the rising status of China is that is puts downward pressure on the wages of domestic workers. Foreign trade is seen by American companies as the search fro a low-cost labor environments. This is turn will place American workers in a competition of low wage working environment. This is what is termed as race to the bottom between domestic and foreign workers. In a general summary, Chinaââ¬â¢s economic growth has increased substantial commercial business activities with the U. S economy. It is now the third largest U. S. trade partner, the second largest source of import and the fourth largest source of exports. Status showing for over the past five years, China is fast becoming the rising source of exports for U. S. goods and is likely to me a good market for U. S. products provided that trades barriers continues to fall. It is projected that within two decades, China will surpass the United States and become the worldââ¬â¢s largest economy. It is believed that any fall in the living standard of U. S. will lead to the rise in Chinaââ¬â¢s status. The high level of low-cost imports from China has benefited the U. S. in many ways. First, the low imports have helped to keep the rate of inflation down. It has increased the overall consumer welfare, enabling them to be able to purchase other goods and services. Finally, the low-cost imports have benefited many U. S. firms that use these imports for the production of their goods. This is of course making the U. S. firms very competitive. Although this rise is often seen as a threat, economists see it as mutually beneficial to both parties. This is to say that both economies need each other to keep up. Looking at low-cost imports from other points of view, the imports from China has negative effect on some firms and jobs such as the textile industries. The import causes diminishing effects on their level of output, wages, and employments. Nevertheless, it is believed that the imbalances in trade between these countries are not the cause for the job loss and low output. Most economists contend that, the rise the value of Chinese currency would not have any effect on the manufacturing industries. They maintain that the appreciation would largely shift manufacturing to low-wage countries not to the United States. China maintains a number of inefficient and distortionary policies such as Government Financial Support for CEOs, industrial polices tend to assist investors. Economists note that although subsidies on exports can negatively affect import-competing domestic firms and workers, they also benefit consumers and users of imported inputs who can obtain such goods at lower prices than under the conditions of free trade. In effect, this improves the U. S. terms of trade because it means a given level of U. S. exports can obtain more imports. On the other hand, the use of subsidies by China lowers its terms of trade and promotes inefficiencies in the economy. Even if Chinese subsidies produce net benefits to the U. S. economy, many U. S. policymakers oppose their use because they do cause some U. S. firms and workers to suffer. Public perceptions that some countries are not playing by the rules of trade may impact their support (and that of their government representatives) for further trade liberalization on a bilateral on multilateral basis. Some trade practices, such a failure to protect IPR, hurt both the U. S. and Chinese economies. China traditionally has focused on low-end, labor-intensive manufacturing, much of which did not compete directly with U. S. firms. However, China is attempting to move into more advanced production and hopes to become globally competitive in a number of industries, such as autos and information technology. This has raised concerns that China may pose the kind of competitive challenge to major U. S. industries that Japan posed during the 1980s. Although it is difficult to accurately predict how advanced Chinaââ¬â¢s economy will become, it currently lags significantly behind the United States. The divergent experience of the U. S. and Japanese economies since the 1990s suggests that the competitive threat from China is questionable, especially considering the extensive economic challenges China faces in the years ahead. Chinese purchases of U. S. Treasury securities have helped the federal government fund its budget deficits and therefore have helped keep U. S. interest rates down. At the same time, China has become the second-largest foreign holder of these securities, and some analysts contend that this status gives China economic leverage over the United States. But any attempt to harm the U. S. economy by unloading these holdings would likely cause comparable harm to the Chinese economy. Similar arguments are made regarding Chinaââ¬â¢s attempts to purchase U. S. companies. However, analysts contend that it would not be in Chinaââ¬â¢s economic interest to purchase U. S. companies if it did not intend to operate them profitably. In general, given the growing importance of the U. S. economy to Chinaââ¬â¢s economic growth, policies to destabilize the U. S. economy would destabilize Chinaââ¬â¢s economy as well.

Scrooge every year at his nephew Freds house, is invited to a Christmas party, but always turns it down. Scrooge is not very well liked by the people at the party especially Fred. You can tell this by they invent a new game called yes or no. This shows that Scrooge is talked behind this back and that people do not care if they hurt his feeling. Scrooge feels unwanted and uncared for. You can tell this by One half hour, Spirit, only one. This shows that Scrooge has feeling and he wants to go as soon as possible because he crying and in great disbelief. Scrooges future looks uncertain when he goes into the future and sees him in a corner of the graveyard, unnoticed, uncared for. You can from this point that Scrooge is at the end of his tether. You can tell this by For the first time his hand appeared to shake. This shows that Scrooge has become more and more frightened and knows he must change his future to be cared for and missed dearly. He does not breakdown till this point because he can not change the past and that does not bother him. At the end of all the spirits visiting Scrooge is disappointed himself by being a selfish, lonely, old man. The Last straw is when he visits his own grave. He is already depressed with the entire trauma and another dig in his grave has made him tremble in fear. You can tell this by The Spirit stood among the graves, and pointed down to one. He advanced towards it trembling. This shows that Scrooge is scared of him and wants to change rather than just a person who has just died. Scrooge really wants to change because he doesnt want to be the man in the corner that no one visits. You can tell this by Are these the shadows of the things that will be, or are they the shadows of the things that may be, only. This shows that Scrooge wants to change because of his experiences over the night. He wants to know that if he changes and mingles with people he will not die and nobody will care. He gets more and more distressed because the spirit wont tell him if he can change his shadows of the future. You can tell this by Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me, by an altered life. He is on his knees, desperately trying to change his future. This tells us from this point onwards Scrooge will be a changed man to avoid distressing death. Scrooge wakes up the next morning a changed man, a generous man. You can tell this by Scrooge regarded everyone with a delighted smile. This shows that Scrooge has took into great account of what the spirits said and gone out to change his future. He is a changed man to the public. You can tell this by If you please, said Scrooge and not a farthing less. A great many back-payments are included in it, I assure you This shows Scrooge as being as kind, thoughtful, caring man rather than a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching covetous old sinner. Scrooge now respects the poor people more than ever, especially the Cratchits. You can tell this by and therefore I am about to raise your salary. This shows that Scrooge would rather share more of his money to make more people happy than just himself. This is different from the beginning because when the gentleman comes to visit he pushes him away and believes in Laissez Faire. Scrooge has now become a happier and more cheerful human being because he has changed his way of living. You can tell this by they all sit around the table eating Christmas dinner. This shows he is not self-contained, lonely old sinner, but a sociable character and because he changed his actions, Tiny Tim did live and Scrooge and his family say God bless Us, Everyone!

(E)conomic condition of Mauritius As far as we consider the country, this is not a very big county, the total area of the country is 2040 square k.m. The present economic condition of the country very good and growing with the good pace in every sector like: If talk about the GDP of the country the it grows by $9.156 billion from 2009 to 2010 and real growth rate is of 2.1% from last year. The per capita income in 2010 is $12,400 which is far more than India i.e. $1007(Rs.44345/year) The avg. inflation rate is 3.4% in 2010 which also less than the India i.e. 8% approx. The agriculture sector has grown by 4.5 % of the GDP: Products in which they have grown: Sugar, Sugar derivatives, Tea, Tobacco, vegetables, fruits, flowers, cattle and and fishing. The manufacturing sector, including export processing zone of the country has grown by 19.4% that shows that it has grown in good pace in comparison to other sectors like agriculture, tourism. The reason for growing in such a pace is: Mauritius was in labor intensive growth for export, including textiles, and clothing, watches, and clocks, jewelry, optical goods, toys and games and cut flowers. Tourism sector in Mauritius has grown by 8.7% of GDP: The tourism of the country is grow due to its good climatic, weather condition, covered by Indian ocean (sea shore)i.e. beach and all tourist come and enjoy the natural environment of the Mauritius. They attract so many countries like India, France, U.S, South Africa, and other European countries. The export is increased by $2.55 billion, in textiles and clothing, watches ,and clocks ,jewelry ,optical goods ,toys and games travel goods and hand bags. The major market for this export: European countries and U.S. The import of the country is $3.552 billion. They mainly import from India, France, South Africa, China, Japan, Spain, Italy, Germany, Malaysia, and Thailand. (P)olitical Factors In the present time political environment play a very important role to overcome country from every problem and make the country perfect in every section like economical, social, environmental and and technological and the same thing happened with Mauritius. Since from 2002 economy started to face some serious challenges as result of globalization, involving the erosion of trade preferences for both Textiles and sugar, two pillars of the economy. Economic growth declined by 3%-4%, while unemployment, Budget deficit and public debt increased steadily. So for overcome from these problems government took so many action. These actions are as follows: In July 2005, they concentrated on a bold economic reform so that it handle and easily face all the global competitive challenges of global market. This reform or changes was not only to improve or remedy to fiscal weakness but also increase business, improve the investment condition in the country, and also increased the FDI investment. The government promoting the restructuring and modernization of textile and sugar industry. They are also promoting ICT (information communication technology) sector, made sea food hub, Freeport (free trade zone at the port and airport). Government also focuses on the various issues like: The land based oceanic industry, Hospitality and property development. Healthcare and biomedical industry. Agro-processing and biotechnology. The knowledge industry and renewable energy. (S)ocial factor Social section enables understanding of customer demographics through income distribution, Rural-urban segmentation and centers of affluence, healthcare and educational scenario. In the country, there are governmental as well as non governmental org.work for the social development of the country. The government offers so many projects for the private and other organization. The Amssadors Special self help programme (SSH) is the development programme. The above programme is to promote and assist small scale project and improving the socioeconomic condition of the country at grassroot level. The basic aim of SSH funds projects are as follows: Addressing global issues such as HIV/AIDS prevention and drug use. Women empowerment. Childrens education. Environmental protection. Mauritius Health and Welfare The Mauritius govt. funded for health services for all the public(easily accessible) Government funded health services and facilities are widespread and accessible to most of the population although facilities are concentrated in urban areas. Ministry of Economic Planning and Development provide more facilities to public So for that government allocated 7.7% of the GDP to healthcare (US$57.9 million) The government has given more emphasis on the healthcare and addressed more doctors and more beds in the hospitals for the easy convenience of the public. Now a days govt. give more emphasis to some important issues like: Easy access to drinking water Nutritional value increased by 2680 to 124% per capita caloric intake. In the present time govt. provides family welfare allowances to the poor. Government provides support to the economically weak students: They provide wheelchairs to the physically weak (handicap) for use at the university of Mauritius and university of technology Mauritius. Government refunds the taxi fares who is physically unfit. They provide discount in the examination fee. (T)echnological Mauritius govt. has been increased upto Rs.24billion in which 11 billion has been invested by the Mauritius govt. The govt has been invested on various project like: Road construction: 11 road projects. Many bi directional lanes. Phase 1 of the ring road The Bus rapid transit system Airport: To meeting more vessel and container at the port govt. expand the port and for that it invested Rs.3.5 billion. Agriculture Government opened agricultural research and extension unit to provide information to planters and breeders regarding price and production level. It provide technical assistance for the development of high tech. sheltered level. It provide consultancy charge up to 75% and application fee Rs.150000 for promoting sugar business to gaining the fair trade from the EU. (E)nvironmental Factor Government for protection and enhancement of the country environment they take 3 major steps Energy efficienct Encouraging public, industry, private for using energy efficient light bulbs for that they provide additional subsidy. They also frame a regulatory institution Energy efficiency management office. They encourage by providing economic incentives for not to purchase polluting vehicles and bio fuels. Green buildings: For reducing the green house gas emission they transform and construt more energy efficient building. Create awareness regarding new energy efficient parameters for building. Measures existing buildings energy efficiency. Construct building with such materials which do not affect the environment. Solar Energy For utilizing solar energy ministry of renewable energies grant a new subsidy of 5000 of each of the 50000 household to purchases the solar water heaters. Other improvement in local environment To protect the environment from unforeseen condition they take various measures like The drainage flood prone areas Enhance awareness about waste management and biodiversity. Made a disaster management unit. (Le)gal factors Tax policy -decreased the tax at source on royalties to non residents from 10% to 15%. They provide tax benefits to the big companies till 31 December. The individual liable to national residency property tax has been increases from Rs.385000 to 400000. Government removed the custom duties on rice, milk, oats milk, almond milk, street light lamps. Removed the duties on T.Vs up to 32 inches and up to 15% on T.V sets above 32 inches. They charged higher tax on energy inefficient electrical and electronic appliances. Ministry of renewable energy will decide the tax on car which emits CO2. Country using Porters diamonds model Porters Diamond The Determinants of National Advantage In the there is demand of two main sector: 1. Tourism 2. Sugar industry. The country is surround by the Indian ocean (island),so it takes the advantage tourism. The country was in cane production very well developed before the independence, and still now. There are so many sugar industries has been established in the Mauritius, and they export sugar to his neighboring country at in large amount. With the development of technology country witnessed constant evolution in this sector. The country in the begning produced sugar in the large amount and increases its production by increasing by the mills at every decade. But due to competition in the globalised market so many rivalry are present like Cuba,India, etc.and cost of sugar increases due to increasing the inflation as well as factor of production of sugar. For the making the sugar industry prospers govt. made a future plan from 2005 to 2015. In which they showed various cost which is incurred in producing sugar. By considering all factors (competition, cost of production, inflation) govt. has decide to reduced the production of sugar. Usually country produces 600000 tonnes sugar annually in which they exported 530000 tonnes exported to the Europian union .While domestic consumption of sugar is 40000 tonnes per annum. The success of sugar industry has good agreement between U.K and other europian union. The upliftment of sugar production in country due availability of water and avg. rain fall is 2500mm per year So from the above facts it appears that the demand of the sugar is present in the country and outside the country. But due to the inflation factors of production cost become high. The cost of the skilled labor is very high. Supporting industry for the Mauritius to increase the GDP in 2010 are industrial growth and tourism, which participate 19.4% and 8.7 %. Mauritius is like a heaven for the tourists and for promoting this sector govt. play a very important role For promoting this sector govt. advertise the country in all over the world like: TOURIST ARE DRAWN TO THE UNSPOILED NATURAL BEAUTY OF MAURITIUS WITHOUT ENVIRONMENT WE WONT ANY TOURISM Mauritius take economic advantage from tourism, with this sector so many hotels industry at the peak seasons generate revenue in good amount and from hotels govt. collect the tax in large amount. Every year in Mauritius approx. 9 lakh visitors come to the country. The Mauritius now becomes the investment hub due to tourism. In the present times many rivalry are emerges out of Mauritius in tourism sector like South Africa, U.S.A etc. Mauritius infrastural development Mauritius govt. has been increased up to Rs.24billion in which 11 billion has been invested by the Mauritius govt. The govt. has been invested on various project like: Road construction: 11 road projects. Facilities to the economically weak students: They provide wheelchairs to the physically weak (handicap) for use at the university of Mauritius and university of technology Mauritius. Government refunds the taxi fares who is physically unfit. They provide discount in the examination fee. Case Study: Severe Malaria Case Study: Severe Malaria The case A 22 year old male whom had just returned from the malarial endemic region of Nigeria from a visit to friends was admitted to A/E at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Nottingham presenting with symptoms of cerebral malaria (severe malaria) Diagnosis: The five protozoa plasmodium endo-parasite species that result in malaria disease in human hosts are: Falciparum, Vivax, Malariae, Ovale and Knowlesi a particular cause of 70% of malarial cases in Southeast Asia. These species all belong to the Plasmodium genus with Falciparum being the most virulent- accounting for 80% of all cases and 90% of all deaths (Moore, Knight, and Blann, 2010) along with being the only plasmodium species causing severe malaria where cerebral malaria (a multi system disease) is a known complication. Transmission of Falciparum is through bites from female anopheles mosquitoes, of which the anopheles gambiae is best for known, during their blood meals to nourish their eggs (Moore, Knight, and Blann, 2010) Falciparum infection in relation to this case was the likely diagnosis due to observed clinical manifestation of cerebral malaria in the patient. Cerebral malaria is considered a pediatric disease from the endemic region (Nigeria) where patient was returning from, however Falciparum has been shown to have a wide epidemiological reach. The endo parasite is endemic in tropical and subtropical regions (non-arid climate optimal survival conditions for vector) such as aforementioned many parts of sub Saharan Africa with Nigeria having the highest morbidity and mortality in regards to malaria in the world.class=table table-bordered America (central and northern half of south America mainly) and Asia (south east Asia particularly, where main body of information on the clinical features, course and prognosis of infection with Falciparum, leading to cerebral malaria, in particularly young adults such as the patient is derived) are also regions of high transmission. (Idro et al., 2005) Clinical Features/Symptoms: Table 1: Clinical features of Falciparum infection Early clinical features/ symptoms Falciparum infection Later symptoms and Neurological manifestations of infection Other Neurological signs/ Major complications (worsening of symptoms) After a few days infected patients typically present with-any combo of: Profuse fever, chills, sweating (tertian due to synchronized release of each new generation of mature merozoites in exoerythrocytic cycle and Erythrocyte schizogony into the bloodstream) Malaise Headache Joint and body/muscle aches Delirium Vomiting Abdominal cramps Diarrhoea (all due to inflammatory response/immune response Haemolysis (due to intraerythrocytic parasites- occurs when mature hepatic schizont/ merozoites of Falciparum burst out of liver, reenter bloodstream where they invade erythrocytes (initiating Erythrocyte schizogony- grow and divide and destroy the cells within a 48hr period) high parasitemiaclass=table table-bordered (hyperparasitemia) coincides with more severe haemolysis and leads to hemoglobinuria Without treatment of Falciparum infection these early features can manifest into cerebral malaria with common features of: Occasional Psychotic behavior/ confusion (1st manifestation of cerebral involvement) Seizures (Falciparum is epileptogenic; risk of seizures increases with increase with parasitemia) less common in adults (15% of cases southeast Asian) compared with the 50% prevalence in pediatric cases (Idro et al., 2005) Unarousable Coma due to Hypercoagulable state, consequence of cytoadherence of infected RBC and rosetting of both infected and non-infected RBC (erythrocytes) to endothelium of cerebral blood vessels and capillaries restricting blood flow.class=table table-bordered (diffuse encephalopathy- level of consciousness may fluctuate over a period of hours) Hypoxia due to blood flow constriction leading to Tissue necrosis Spontaneous bleeding and severe hemolytic anemia (due to significant haemolysis of both infected and non-infected RBC- contributes to renal failure Coagulation disorders (i.e thrombocytopenia) due to activation of the coagulation cascade (could account for low platelet count in patient in this case study as patient likely suffering from condition) Other symptoms: Severe Jaundice Kussmal breathing (occurring with acute renal failure and severe lactic acidosis) Shock (with possible presence of septicemia) Patients typically have symmetrical upper neuron signs/brainstem signs such as: Disconjugate movement of the eyes (due To CNS involvement) Abnormal posturing/ opisthotonos Retinal abnormalities (less common in adults. i.e retinal hemorrhages associated with increased mortality) Mutli-organ failure (Falciparum is a multisystem disease)- circulatory, hepatic, coagulation, pulmonary failure Pulmonary edema (possibly due to abnormalities of the pulmonary microcirculation caused by RBC restricting blood flow. (Brooks et al.,1968) Severe Hypoglycemia (only present in 8% of cases ref science direct) In a few patients- abnormalities such as cerebral infarcts (stroke)can manifest (due to thrombophilia in cerebral capillaries). Table 2: Outcomes/ Prognosis of cerebral malaria in adults with treatment Recovery of consciousness Slower in Adults occurs within 48 hours Mortality Around 20% (50% of mortality cases occur within 24hrs without treatment) Neurological/ neurocognitive sequelae Very rare in adults range from

A Curse and a Gift :: Personal Narrative Death Papers
A Curse and a Gift He stands in the dark, lingering. Always linger. Faceless, but his cold, menacing eyes illuminate from the depth of the abyss. Heââ¬â¢s gone now. My attention is diverted to a lonely, deserted road. Thereââ¬â¢s no sign of life anywhere. Itââ¬â¢s pitch dark and Iââ¬â¢m walking. I donââ¬â¢t know where Iââ¬â¢m going, but I have to get out of this darkness. A cold, unsettling breeze emerges from a warm, summerââ¬â¢s night. I feel chills rising through my spine. ââ¬Å"Somethingââ¬â¢s wrong.â⬠I walk for a considerable amount of time. Finally, out of nowhere I see a speck of light. I get closer. A somber crowd stands in a circle with their heads down, as if at a funeral. Two cars, a red Pontiac Firebird, and a silver Toyota Celica, had lost control and gotten into a terrible collision. They look familiar. I force my way through the spellbound, immobile crowd. My heart beat fastens to a thousand beats per minute. I drop to my knees in hysteria. ââ¬Å"Kelvin! Kelvin! Not you too! Please donââ¬â¢t do this to me!â⬠He lays there. Face up towards a glorious sky. There are millions of stars out tonight. But I havenââ¬â¢t noticed them. He just lays there. His hands folded and resting on his thigh, he lays in a pool of blood, on the dry, brown earth. He hasnââ¬â¢t suffered any substantial physical injuries from what I can see. He looks peaceful, so peaceful, in eternal repose. I can still recognize him. Heââ¬â¢s 6ââ¬â¢1, with a dark, chocolate complexion, an athletic build and a handsome face. He is my brother. Claudia, a close friend of mine, comes up to me in tears. She puts her arms around me and says ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m so sorry.â⬠She and Kelvin, both proud thrill-seekers were racing. She has survived the collision. My brother is gone. I woke up sweating and distraught, in tears. My heart was still racing. I frantically recited psalm 23, the Lordââ¬â¢s Prayer. After that, I grabbed the television remote which I had placed under my collection of stuff animals and turned on the television to Cartoon Network. Tom and Jerry was being showed. I reached for my journal which lay next to the remote on my bed, and began to write. Imagine losing your uncle, cousin and a very close family friend in one year. Better yet, imagine losing four people that are very dear to you in a three year time span.
mass commication and how it affects todays youth Essay examples -- ess
From Eminemââ¬â¢s hardcore explicit lyrics, to Lil Kimââ¬â¢s outrageous outfits to the late Tupac Shakurââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"thug lifeâ⬠image, the rap subculture has been under a lot of speculation. Many rappers lyrics contain violent messages that parents fear are encouraging youth to become violent. The media has a field day covering protests against rappers, such as Eminem about their explicit lyrics towards gays, women and their promotion of violence. The main concern is how rap is influencing today, particularly towards the youth community, and the answer can be found in the media. There are a lot of articles, books, movies and documentaries written and produced each year with hip-hop being the main subject. This great plethora of media not only affects the youth but other people as well. However, one needs to understand how the rap culture got started, and why the media found it interesting enough to give it a substantial amount of coverage. à à à à à According to Webster, rap is rhythmic chanting of usually rhyming couplets to a musical accompaniment (Webster, 607). The rap subculture began in the African community residing in the Bronx during the 70ââ¬â¢s with rappers free stylingââ¬âwhen artists rhyme without memorization or writing down lyricsââ¬âin the park, on street corners and in apartment basements (Watkins, 63). This was a harmless way of determining who the best lyricist was. At the time artists such as Arrested Development made lyrics that sent a positive message to the African community. The groupââ¬â¢s songs address topics ranging from homelessness to the search for spirituality and African Americansââ¬â¢ connection with Africa. Through their positive influence they received ââ¬Å"Best New Artistâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Best Rap Artistâ⬠during the 1993 Grammy Awards (Boyd, 44). During its birth, this subculture produced many other cultures such as graffiti art, break dancing and most notably rap music. This subculture was very expressive and paved the way for latter culturesââ¬â¢ success. In his book, Fight the Power, Chuck D (a member of rap group Public Enemy) states, ââ¬Å"Hip hop is a subculture of Black culture. Itââ¬â¢s another term for Black creativity. Rap music is here to stay because itââ¬â¢s vocal over music, and as the music changes the vocals can remain the same because itââ¬â¢s one of the few live vocal styles ever used for recording musicâ⬠(p.g. 248). Symbols and Symbolism in The Mask of the Red Death :: Mask Masque Red Death Essays
Symbolism in The Mask of the Red Death Thesis: Poe uses symbolism to unfold this gripping tale of terror. I. The first symbol in the story is the name of the Prince himself, Prince Prospero. II. The ebony clock is another major symbol within this tale. III. The black room is the most prominent symbol in the story but is not clear until the end. The mood of this story is set as a description of the Red Death is laid out for the reader. "The 'Red Death' had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or hideous." (Poe 72) This disease left scarlet stains upon it victims skin. Any victim of this disease was totally shunned by his fellow man. The final throws of this " Red Death " were an agonizing half hour of torment and seizure. Prince Prospero could no longer bear witness to this, so in fear of his life he took himself one thousand of his royal comrades and enough servants for all to a secluded abbey. He was sure the seclusion from the Red Death would save his life. He was wrong! Poe uses his supporting character Prince Prospero, to show the wealth of royalty in this story. This character's speaks of wealth and happiness. Prospero's wealth was so vast that he was easily able to support one thousand of his royal comrades, hundreds of servants, and a seemingly endless number of parties. However, it is very ironic that the prince of prosperity was the first to die. He was murdered by the main character of the story "The Red Death" itself. I believe this was to show the reader that one can not turn their back to society's problems without feeling the effects. The giant ebony clock screamed with the symbolism of the group's short amount of time left in this world. This clock had an over powering chime every hour. The chime paused its victims with disconcert and trepidation. This sound was so clear, and loud that it was heard by all, and even the most joyous grew pale. In the end the clock died just as the "Red Death" had taken its last victim, "And the life of the ebony clock went out with that the last of the gay" (75).

Abortion in Canada Should Remain Legal
ââ¬Å"Abortion is not a crime in Canada but it is an area of the lawâ⬠(Duhaime, 2010) that isnââ¬â¢t black and white. It has been completely legal since 1988 and our government should keep it that way. For as much as some people are anti-abortion or ââ¬Ëpro-lifeââ¬â¢ they need to understand that women have abortions for a variety of reasons one being that an abortion can actually benefit the unborn child. Those who are anti-choice also claim that abortion is wrong because it violates the rights of the fetus, but what about the rights of the woman? It is a womanââ¬â¢s right to decide what she does with her body and though it is much debated; a fetus by logical argument is not a person and does not hold any rights. Finally, even if abortion was made illegal as it was many decades ago, desperate measure to abort unwanted children would be taken by many expecting women, with dire consequences. It is from these four statements that one can say that abortion should continue to be legal in Canada. ââ¬Å"It is not always in the best interest of the child to be bornâ⬠(Jacob, 2006). A great example comes from the book Abortion under Attack. It features a story from a girl whose father never wanted her. She ââ¬Å"suffered emotional abuse of hearing on a regular basis that she was unwanted and unwelcomed. â⬠(Jacob, 2006) A lot of children are sadly born into this type of unloving environment when a mother is too poor to afford an abortion and doesnââ¬â¢t have the support to take care of the child or when they are born into a strained relationship. When a child is born to parents who donââ¬â¢t want them, would it not have been in their best interest to have been aborted? Rather than be subject to emotional or physical abuse or loveless lives in group homes, they could have never had to experience any of the pain; they never would have known. The fetus is not a conscious being, so when it is aborted it feels no pain; it is as if it never existed. In other cases, a child who born to a woman who heavily used drugs throughout her pregnancy wonââ¬â¢t have a fair chance at life. Why put an infant or child through that type of stress and withdrawal. A potential mother who is a heavy drug user should abort any baby that would have been consummated during the times she was using because that will cause unnecessary harm to the unborn child therefore it is not in the best interest of the child to be born. Another instance would be when a couple wants to have a baby but a healthy relationship isnââ¬â¢t in place. By healthy relationship weââ¬â¢re talking about one that isnââ¬â¢t full of anger and violence. If you bring a child into an unhealthy environment, full of negative energy it has a great impact on their development. An example of how negativity can affect the development process is seen in Dr. Emotoââ¬â¢s book Messages in Water. In his book he does an experimental study of whether negative words like ââ¬Å"you foolâ⬠have a different effect on water formations than positive words such as ââ¬Å"loveâ⬠or ââ¬Å"appreciationâ⬠(Emoto, 2008). He found that negative phrases and words create large clusters or will not form clusters, and positive, beautiful words and phrases create small, tight clusters. In basic terms negative words and positive words have different effects on the structure of ones make up. So bringing a child into a negative environment isnââ¬â¢t fair to them in two ways, the first being that they werenââ¬â¢t asked to be brought into the situation and the second being that they are going to be emotionally abused or traumatized from the constant violence. From this one could conclude that it would have been in the childââ¬â¢s best interest if they were never born and brought into the situation. ââ¬Å"Only persons have a right to life, human organisms are not persons before birth therefore human organisms do not have a right to life before birth. (Jagger, 2009) A fetus is completely dependent on a mother to survive, if removed from the womb it would die. A human can independently survive when put on its own. So one can conclude that because a fetus is not viable without being attached to something else, it is human-like but not human; if anything it more closely resembles a parasite clinging to a host for life. At birth the fetus becomes human because it can no w independently breathe, move, eat etc. Now a pro-life believer could now say, ââ¬ËWould a person who is living off a kidney dialysis machine, and cannot live independently not be a personââ¬â¢? To answer that is the key to why a fetus is not a person. As soon as one can live independently they can be considered to be a person, if after that they become dependent they still remain persons because they have already functioned independently and crossed the line from human organism to human. Almost all of abortions are done in the first two trimesters of pregnancy, and during this time a fetus is not independently viable. The amount of abortions done in the third trimester, or after ââ¬Å"quickeningâ⬠is such a low percentage it does not make sense to make a law against it because it is so unheard of. The general understanding with an abortion is that you shouldnââ¬â¢t do it after youââ¬â¢ve felt the baby move, or once it is viable. This is a understanding that lies in the morals of humans, there is no need for a law against it because people will 9 out of 10 times make the morally correct decision. In the odd case where a third trimester abortion does occur, it is only done after evaluating all possible options and weighing all the consequences, we need to keep abortion legal so people can make the choice for themselves. Women have been fighting for their rights for decades, and taking ownership of their bodies was part of that. In 1988 Dr. Henry Montagentaler opened up several illegal (at the time) abortion clinics and challenged section 287 of the criminal code which condemned abortion. The Supreme Court ruled that section 287 offended the charter and was no longer in effect. His fight made abortion legal for all Canadian women. (Arthur, 1999) He gave women a choice, the choice to continue the pregnancy and keep the child, continue the pregnancy and give the child away or legally abort the pregnancy. The court case of Daigle v. Tremblay displays this choice in action. In Quebec 1989 Chantal Daigle became pregnant and wanted to abort the baby as she did not feel ready or capable of being a parent but her boyfriend Mr. Tremblay tried to get a court ordered injunction to prevent her from doing just that. His plea was dismissed in the Supreme Court and it became known to all that the father has no legal rights in a motherââ¬â¢s abortion decision, and a fetus is not a person under Quebec law it holds no rights. From this case we can see that a womanââ¬â¢s rights override the rights of a fetus, if it is considered to have any. Women canââ¬â¢t be condemned for abortion because they arenââ¬â¢t doing anything wrong other than fighting for their rights as theyââ¬â¢ve done for so many years. People should ââ¬Å"not judge the choices others make,â⬠(Piehl, 2007) as many ââ¬Å"people say that women who have abortions do so for selfish reasonsâ⬠(Piehl, 2007) but usually theyââ¬â¢re wrong as Itââ¬â¢s out of love. Many who ââ¬Å"endure the pain of abortion do so to provide the quality of arenting they want for their children that they already have, to ensure financial security or to complete education. (Piehl, 2007) When viewed from this perspective we can see that when a woman gets an abortion she is doing so because she wants the best for her child. Why bring a child into a world where you cannot properly provide for them? From this we can see why abortion can be a good thing and why it should remain legal. ââ¬Å"Between 1926 and 1947, 4000 to 6000 Canadian women died as a result of bungled illegal abortions. (Arthur, 1999) This was due to the lack of resources used by the people conducting the procedure. This in its self, shows us that women are going to dominate their bodies whether it is legal or not, so the best thing to do would be to keep it legal so a safer and cleaner procedure can be offered. ââ¬Å"Childbirth itself is also unusually painfulâ⬠¦it is hazardous to womenââ¬â¢s health and indeed their lives. â⬠(Tooley, 2009) To make a women go through the exquisite pain of childbirth when she may not be ready to mother a child is quite cruel. There are many different procedures for abortion, but all have to be done with care or the life of the mother is put at risk. We need to keep abortions legal so that doctors can be adequately trained in the different procedures and fewer Canadian women will die as a result. A wise man once said ââ¬Å"The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nationâ⬠in reference to abortion. (Arthur, 1999) Though abortion was illegal up until quite recently we should keep it that way. To take away someoneââ¬â¢s choice about their bodies is an infringement on human rights, and the fetus has no rights as it is not a person. We also have to understand that with such a big issue, even if it was made illegal people would continue to do it, so we may as well have them doing it in a safe manner. Abortion is quite a controversial issue in Canada, and all over the world but it should remain legal in Canada because we all need to have a choice, whether it is believed to be moral or immoral is irrelevant; we, as human beings need to have the option to make a choice and live with the decision.

David Ricardo: Law of Diminishing Returns Essay
David Ricardo, a 17 century English political economist, is considered an extremelyinfluential classical economist along with Adam Smith and Thomas Malthus. Ricardo was bornon the 27th April 1772 and helped develop key economic theories until his death on the 11thSeptember 1823 1. Ricardo grew up in a dominate English family where his father was also aneconomist, Ricardo credits his father and the reading of Adam Smithââ¬â¢s book The Wealth ofNations for his interest of the social science, economics2. Ricardo did not reach immediate fame,in fact it quite the opposite. It was not until age 37 when Ricardo first published his views oneconomics, after he reached the milestone of publishing his first article he continued to work anddeveloped his theories, it was ten years later, at the age 47 when most say Ricardo reached hispeak of fame. While developing economic theories Ricardo worked on the Stock Exchange inLondon, this increased his wealth, by the time he was 42 he was completely retired from theexchange and his sole focus was surrounding economic 3. In the remainder of this essay I willexamen some of Ricardoââ¬â¢s economic theories with a focus on the law of diminishing returns. David Ricardo is responsible for the creation as well as the development of a number ofkey economic theories which allowed past and current economist to better understand todaysever changing economy. The three accomplishments that Ricardo has received most credit for arethe labor theory of value, the law of diminishing return as well as the Barro Ricardo equivalence4. The labor theory of values are a set of theories that suggests that the value of any good orservice is equal to the amount of labor that was put in to the good or service either directly orindirectly to produce it. The labor theories of value were furthered developed by Ricardo as wellas fellow classical economists including Adam Smith, the Labor theory of value is not commonlyused in current times and instead it has been replaced with the marginal utility approach. The third law or theory that Ricardo helped develop is the law of diminishing returns, thelaw of diminishing returns is a simple theory however it is imperative that it is observed by firmsas it can cause great financial loss. According to the law of diminishing returns, while in aproduction system with fixed and variable inputs including factory size and the size of theà workforce each additional input will create a lesser and lesser output as the additional input increases6. Ricardo was an economist who was responsible for the development of the law ofdiminishing return. Ricardo developed this theory with other classical economists of his timewhich some of the most notable being Johann Heinrich von Thà ¼nen, Turgot and finally ThomasMalthus. The idea was first developed by Ricardo when he used the example of agricultureproducts to demonstrate his ideas into a working theory. All Ricardo, von Thà ¼nen, Turgot andMalthus lived in a time where land was a valuable, scares and needed. This helped this group ofeconomists develop the law of diminishing return because these economists were worries that asland was in diminishing supply this factor of production would run out and cause diminishingreturns. In order for firms to continue to grow their product they must move to location to a lessfertile location which boasts poor soil, this will lead to the agriculture firm needing to put moremoney into growth steroids for the product or good they grow. This over time with out questionwill diminish the returns received. This is how the theory that is still in place and consideredvaluable today was founded and developed by several key classical economists includingRicardo, von Thà ¼nen, Turgot and Malthus. I will now demonstrate the idea of the law of diminishing return in a example of a t-shirtproducing firm. If a shirt producing firm was to start off with one worker who can produce ten t-shirts in a hour the this workers marginal benefit would be ten. If the owner of the firm decide hewanted to increase his workforce to two workers. When the owner does this he finds that withtwo employees their output grows to a combined 25 t-shirts per hour, this gives he new employeea marginal benefit of 15. This pattern will continue until a number is met that can not keep upwith fixed variables of production. In this case we will say that the fixed factors of productionwill allow for up to three workers to be employed and be able to grow at a increasing rate. Withthree workers the group will be able to produce up to 45 t-shirts in an hour, giving the thirdworker a marginal benefit of 20. As the fixed factors of production will only be able to handlethree workers and work up to full potential. The next worker that is added will not increase theoutput at theà same level as the others would as the fixed factors of production will not be able tohandle the work load to a maximum level. The now team of 4 would be only able to make a totalof 60 t- shirts effectively rendering the fourth employes marginal benefit to be 15. The fifth willbe added, 70 t-shirts will me made in an hour and the marginal benefit will become 10 as there isa 10 unit increase in the product from when there were five workers. This downgrade willcontinue until to many workers are employed and the additional workers are have negativemarginal benefits. This is an example of what will happen once a sixth worker is added. Whenthe sixth worker is added there will be an output of 60 shirts in an hour giving the sixth workeran marginal benefit of negative 10. This is when a firm will be operating at a loss as they will bepaying an extra employee money to decrease the total output of the firm. This can be changed byletting on of the six workers go as they will then be making more out and paying less employeesthis equals more money for the firm to spend as they feel needed. This same idea can be seen inappendix I. The law of diminishing return can only take place in the in the short run. This is becausethe law of diminishing return is where you will only change one of the fixed variables ofproduction, in the case of the law of diminishing return the only factor of production that ischanged is the amount of people in the workforce therefore the law of diminishing returns takesplace only in the short run as only one factor is altered. The law of diminishing returns will also effect the firms on a long term basis, as this lawhas a effect on how much income the firm will at its disposal. The law of diminishing return hasa direct effect on the amount of money that a firm has, therefore as the law of diminishing returnplays it self out companies will be adjusting their workforce causing either an increase ordecrease in their expenditure leaving them more money to spend later on in some cases. Withthis the firm will be able to upgrade their factors of production in the long term and this willdirectly effect their performance in the long run. This is because with this extra money the firmwill receive form the firing of wasteful employees can be used to upgrade factories, fields orother factors of production. When the otherà factors of production are increased in the long termthan this will allow more workers to be hired and they will be able to make more revenue as wellas increases their output. For the steak holders and management of the firm the law of diminishing returns is aninvaluable resource that is used to maximize productivity of a firm. As perviously mentioned inthis paper the law of diminishing returns is a theory that was set in place so that firms, large orsmall will be able to maximize production as well as income. This will keep the firm is businessfor time to come as well as allow it to grow substantially with out hurting its feature. This willalso allow the firm owners to become more wealthy and this will give the owners andmanagement the option of using this extra income to improve the firms factors of production. In conclusion, the law of diminishing returns is a resource that is valuable to firmsby allowing them to ensure they are working at maximum efficiency. The law of diminishingreturns is a simple yet vital theory and concept for people to understand. The basis of firms canbe built upon the law of diminishing returns and can be extremely valuable. With out such a lawor theory firms would be lost and unable to produce goods at the same rate of productively asthey do with such a law. In all this law is one that must be understood for those looking tomanage and operate a effective firm in order for the firm to stay a completive business. Works Cited -Websites-1. Apocalypse Now Analysis Essay
The line ââ¬Å"Mistah Kurtz ââ¬â he deadâ⬠from T. S. Elliotââ¬â¢s poem ââ¬ËThe Hollow Menââ¬â¢ refers to one of the movieââ¬â¢s main characters: Mr. Kurtz, a European trader who had gone into ââ¬Å"the heart of darknessâ⬠ie the middle of the vast Vietnamese jungle with European standards of life and behavior. Because heââ¬â¢s alienated from the morals and spiritual strengths he cannot maintain his sanity and soon turns into a barbarian. ââ¬Å"Eyes they dare not meet in dreamsâ⬠ââ¬â in my mind, these are the eyes of the innocent Vietnamese whose death they ordered. Theyââ¬â¢ being the American soldiers who, throughout the duration of their journey through the jungle lost their sanity and were brainwashed because of the weapons they were given. What I was particularly fascinated by in the film ââ¬ËApocalypse Nowââ¬â¢ was the way the good can somehow turn into the evil, not on their own, but because of their surroundings. ââ¬Å"[.. ] We were in the jungle, there were too many of us, we had access to too much money, too much equipment and little by little we went insaneâ⬠ââ¬âsaid by director and producer, Coppola at the Cannes film festival in 1979. Even the director had, little by little, gone insane being exposed to the Vietnamese jungle for so many years. The making of the film had taken more than 10 years and $30million to create which had brought Coppola to attempted suicide a couple of times. The film is based on the novella ââ¬ËHeart of Darknessââ¬â¢ which took place during the Vietnam War, where the American and the Vietnamese soldiers showed no mercy when it came to a matter of life and death. Throughout the film, I realized that the main character, Captain Willard, sent to assassinate Colonel Kurtz, began to be more and more captivated by Kurtzââ¬â¢s achievements and was beginning to think like him as he was exposed to immoral atrocities of the Great War. When General Corman described Willardââ¬â¢s mission to him he told him ââ¬Å"In this war, things get confused out there, power, ideals, the old morality, and practical military necessity. Out there with these natives it must be a temptation to be god. Because thereââ¬â¢s a conflict in every human heart between the rational and the irrational, between good and evil. The good does not always triumph. Sometimes the dark side overcomes what Lincoln called the better angels of our nature. Every man has got a breaking point. You and I have. Walter Kurtz has reached his. And very obviously, he has gone insane. â⬠This quote reminds me of Danteââ¬â¢s Inferno mentioned in the poem ââ¬Å"The Hollow Menâ⬠ââ¬â a journey through the different circles of hell depending on the type of person one was and the type of crime they had committed during their lifetime. The man is clear in his mind but his soul is mad. â⬠Like Alberto Giacometti, Kurtz and Willard develop two faces during the time of the war. The only difference is that Giacometti didnââ¬â¢t need a war to show this, his dual personality was natural in criticizing himself, his paintings and his sculptures. Whilst watching the film I found it mainly disturbing how these men, men with families, men who had peaceful souls, could casually blow off the head of a Vietnamese person without feeling just a tiny bit of hurt in their hearts. They could ââ¬Å"kill without feelingâ⬠¦ without passionâ⬠¦ without judgmentâ⬠¦ without judgment! Because itââ¬â¢s judgement that defeats us. â⬠The fact that these characters, sent out on mission through the rivers of a foreign place, were simple men, one a chef, the other a surfer, and the other a sailor gives the audience the feeling that this could happen to anyone. Being placed in the jungles of Vietnam with nothing but weapons would turn us into these animalistic beings with only one instinct: kill to survive. Do you know that ââ¬Ëifââ¬â¢ is the middle word in life? If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt youâ⬠This film is, in fact, all about losing oneââ¬â¢s mind, being brainwashed by the immoralities of society, to be converted into an emotionless killer. Itââ¬â¢s about the delusion of what an evil man is in the normal personââ¬â¢s eyes compared to what an evil man is in the brainwashed personââ¬â¢s eyes.

Most criminologists use a legal definition of crime
Crime is an action or an instance of negligence that is deemed injurious to the public welfare or morals or to the interests of the state and that is legally prohibited. It is a criminal activity that engaged in fights and riots. These definitions connote negative impact to crime and as what it always does to human minds. Stereotyping will always apply every time people encounter the word crime as dangerous, harmful and destructive to humankind and the state. Sociologists define it as deviant act, non-conforming to societyââ¬â¢s standard and violating all the rules that the state set up. Thus every act that does not conforms or follows the societyââ¬â¢s standards are all considered crime and doers are criminals. Simple violations like way walking, loitering, over speeding, and making noise that disturbs the public are all considered crimes because it violates the societyââ¬â¢s rules. To the extent that simple offender will easily be judge as criminal, thus given sanction and punished before the law, no matter how big or small the case was, as long as he/she committed violations punishment, is still given to him/her. Human law or society set standard are said to be righteous thus to be tag on and respected by all. All human kinds are abided to conform the said rules and standard. Acts, which are not set as correct by the state standards, are all crime and sin according to societyââ¬â¢s laws. Violators of such are therefore tagged as criminal and thus sin committers. Every rules have corresponding sanctions, thus violators are subject to punishment base on how destructive and offensive the crime may be to people and to the state. Not all people in a state or society are all aware the rules to abide in their respective society. Many were punished without knowing what offenses they are committing or what violation they do. In addition, many are not conscious to policy and sanctions to the said laws. Thus, offenders effortlessly surrender their selves to avoid any possible trouble of non-conformance. With these, Australia New Zealand Policing Support Agency (ANZPSA) was established to give policy support, strategic advice, research, knowledge management and information giving out capacity across jurisdictions. This represents a momentous change in approach that involves the union of functions. An implementation team has been established too to commence the practical arrangements for the creation of the new organization. This agency was created to investigate possible causes of offenses, and possibly give massive information on how to avoid and handle crimes that may occur. This includes, thorough analysis of a certain case, its implications and root cause why such crime/offenses arise. There are many crimes reported everyday throughout the country. Each one needs a kin and careful investigation because authority cannot easily accuse the suspect as guilty without proper jurisdiction. Cases are being study, offenders are questioned; his/her family background, his/her status and the reason behind his offenses are also investigated. If suspect is proven guilty before the law, sanctions and punishments are given. This punishment varies from case to case bases, which are also set together with the rules and standard of a certain community. There are also violations that need not to punish right away. Offenders are usually given warnings or let be pay for a certain amount. Mostly are jaywalkers and loiterers. Crimes may vary from country to country, depending on how such country set its norm. According to National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) U.S most common committed crimes are gang crime, hate crime, organized crime, property crime, trafficking in persons, public offenses and drug crime, (http://www.acpr.gov.au/). Drug crime as the most common offenses committed anywhere; cause so much damage that resulted to other related crimes. Drug and alcohol crime are offenses that involve many related crime doers. These include the user and the pusher. User may led to addiction which may caused him/her to do acts which are not set as standards to the society as a whole, like theft, rape, and robbery that resulted to public disturbance and destructions. Crime involving drugs is most rampant violation that every one encounters, because drugs is present anywhere people go. Most people have access to it; even young ones can afford to hand it due to simple and easy to have resources. The Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring program (ADAM) deals the level of drug and alcohol use in risky population of people. They are designed to investigate on how do arrestees use the drugs, how frequent they use how they obtain it and what push them to do so. These dataââ¬â¢s are collected either thru personal interview with the arrestees and careful observations. Dosage of offendersââ¬â¢ intake is also measured thru test and urinalysis. Investigations always occur during the arrest and not later than 48 hours to make documentation for proper reporting and study to come up a correct and accurate report on what alcohol and drugs are commonly abused and the effect it cause to the user and to the public. Crime as a deviant behavior said to violate a prevailing norms especially cultural standard that dictates people on how to behave well and what someone should avoid to do, (Berger, 1963). This view consider the complicated facts surrounding the definition of crime and seeks to understand how changing social political, psychological and economic conditions may affect the current definition of crime and the form of legal law enforcement. Crime perception may change from time to time. This changes depends on the cultural shift of one society also, which affects the criminal statistics rates of the state as well. Socio-economic status of one place plays a role in crime rate also. For example, in a drastically losing its resources country/society may affect the attitude of the people to crave for food for living especially if there is scarcity of its supply in their respective community. Scarcity of jobs will also affect criminal rate of a certain place. Absence may lead people to commit some expected job-less related crime like theft and robbery. If one place is in famine or less job opportunities, it is expected that crime will also rise. On the other hand, if the state is in good economic standing, crime rate will also lessen. Economic change and cultural shift determines the allocation of resources for the enforcement of law, and influences public opinion. In addition, changes in criminal rate will also affect on how the public think and perceived crime. Such adjustments, allied with the experience of people in their everyday lives, shape attitude to the extent to which the law should be used to enforce any particular social norms. There are many ways that behavior can control without having to resort criminal justice system, in those cases where there were no clear consensus on the given norm. The use of the criminal law by the group of authority to prohibit a particular action maybe considered improper for the others. Crime as called deviant act will also have a corresponding punishments attach to it. Every person involve is given an equivalent sanction to the crime committed. In such a way that the said criminal be stop and further damage to the public and to the state can then be avoided, because the state or the authority believes that allowing any crime to occur without doing any action is just like letting harms to spread without any preventing or stopping device to control it. This process involves criminalisation, with the involvement of the state as the authority to control the said crimes. It is a crime reduction device restricting individual liberty to minimize harm to others. Though every citizen has the right to liberty but not all liberty is harm-free to others. Because hat maybe considered crime to the others may not be crime for the other party. Criminalisation may provide future harm reduction even after the occurrence of crime, assuming that those act are more likely to cause further damage in the future. Criminalisation is intended for the crime doers to pay their crime offenses to stop the act at the early stage to prevent and minimize criminals. In this case criminalisation is a way to set the reward that criminals must have after committing certain evil action that are considered threat to the peacefulness of the society as a whole. In addition; criminalisation can be viewed as a state sanctioned to the crime doers. Because I personally believed that once a person is not aware of his deeds, whether he/she already caused damage to the others will continuously patronage his/her action if not being reprimanded of his wrong doings. In this sense, sanctions must be something that could make evildoers awake then, if not he/she more likely to repeat the said action again and again. Crime rate is measured to determine the number or crime incidence happen in that particular place. In order to compare on what specific year and month that crime rate rise and fall, so that the public has the idea when to be more careful and not as well as to be more familiar with the places where crime rate is high. Countries and societies have different methods in measuring crime rate. Some used survey, personal interviews and sample sampling. In Australia, they use fact and figures to gather and determine the occurrence of crime, which come from a variety of sources. They use two types of collection data. Namely, administrative and survey method. Both types of information needed to help our comprehension of the level and effects of crime to the people and in the community. The sources they use with these issues are listed in the reference for future retrieval and comparison. Administrative collection for criminal justice agencies keep record of their work process and progress related to crime in different stages. Criminal cases are being divided into different agencies to handle with in order for it to be carefully tackle. In addition, public has the idea on what agency to look for in looking for a particular crime. For example police keep incidents record, court record the details of cases and their disposition and correction agencies have details of the offenders and their corresponding charges. Most crime information come from administrative collections which tackle the whole population that come into contact with the criminal justice system and remain stable in terms of data collection and sources for the long period of time. There are limitations on spreading of the said data, including comparison across agencies and jurisdictions. For example police record details about offenses, courts record cases and correction agencies for the information about individualsââ¬â¢ prisoners. Although improvement arises in workflow of the said data sources, data definitions and collecting method used are not always the same across jurisdiction and recording quality maybe vary. It takes time to come up with an agreement at a national level on the key issue including definitions of new and arising violations. More detailed and close likely to accurate information about crime and justice is often available at the jurisdictional level, even when it is not possible to come up with national statistics. Not all crime is reported to police. Thus not all crimes were record and collected information then. Unreported crimes usually occur at rural areas where people do not have enough access to authority. Minor crimes like theft, sexual assaults, and minor incidence are the usual crime that is most commonly unreported. Twenty percent of crime related to sexual assaults is believed to be unreported and almost ninety five percent for motor vehicle thefts incidence. This is the reason why other sources of data collection use the method of asking questions to the public in order to come up with the highest and lowest common answers. These answers are then recorded in a similarly uniform way so that the information they provide is reliable and comparable. Crime surveys are believed to produce more accurate vision of actual crime rate in a particular society. Although survey is said to be more accurate than the others there is still possibilities of error with regard of its percentage, due to small sample population involved. But percentage of errors is also being recorded in order to determine the error. Crime brought negative connotation to individualsââ¬â¢ perception and thinking, based on how the state or society label it as such also. The imposed and practice rules and regulation culturally embraced society, because society has its norms and standard to follow. Doing the opposite to the said norms is therefore considered deviant. Thus doers are labeled as shame to the family where she/he belongs and to the community as a whole. These are labeled as such because the society set it as such also, and the people therefore are obliged to observe and follow the norms being an occupant of the society. Therefore, people committing such deviant acts are subject to face and suffer before the law. The consistent problem has been to justify the societyââ¬â¢s use of force to coerce with its law. Natural law theory posits that the standard of morality are derived from or constructed by the nature of the world or of human beings. Thomas Aquinas said: ââ¬Å" the law and measure of human acts is the reason which is the first principle of human acts.â⬠(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/crime. Since people are by nature rational beings, it is morally appropriate that they should behave in a way that conforms to their rational being. Thus any law must conform to natural law and coercing people to conform to that law is morally acceptable. Every human actions deal always with morality. The problem may arise if ones moral act which is set his/her nature may not be moral to the others, which probably came from other society whose moral value are not the same. Thus crime may also result to. But in dealing with these issues both parties involve must understand and know each others moral value to compromise to possibly eradicate the arising trouble, as well as the authority who have the power to weigh and decide it all. Majority of natural law theorist accepts that the primary function of the law is to enforce the prevailing morality. The problem with this is that it makes any moral criticism, if conformity with natural law is necessary conditions for legal validity. It s always necessary for the existing law to be just and fair to all individuals in a society. Equal treatment and punishment must be given to offenders regardless of their ethnicity, status and socio-economic standing. The law may be acceptable but the use of state power to citizens to comply with that law is not morally justified. Crime may be characterized as the violation of individual rights. Since right are considered as natural and crime as a man-made labeling. Therefore crime is also natural. Perfect example for this is that manââ¬â¢s nature is to look for food for survival, and he must take some actions on how to get his/her basic needs. In remote areas for example most people get their food anywhere they want and with any method they knew. Some cultivate food in their own, using the land they found regardless of the ownership of the said land. Whether it owns by the state or by other people. With this scenario, in natural moral aspect the act is right and legal because the nature dictates man to have food to survive. On the other hand, human implemented law states that it is illegal and criminal because of using the land which is own by the other people. It is invasion of property if the society law calls it. In this case, the man, which is just doing things that is for him legal, will be hold and question by the state before the law. Natural theory therefore distinguishes between criminality, which is derived from human nature, and illegality, which is derived from the interest of those in power. This view leads to a seemingly paradox that an act can be illegal that is no crime, while criminal act could be perfectly legal. Reference: Books: Berger, Peter. (1963).
